Owethu S’ Football Journey

Owethu started playing football ,when he was in his foundation phase grades (1-3).For him it made no sense, but it was just his love of the game driving. When we asked, who influenced and inspired him to became an footballer, said at the age of 9-11 years, he believe, he was his own motivation, because of the competition around him,he was small, short and had less strength compared to his peers. That motivated him, because the only thing he wanted to be amongst the Best players. When he grew up,always wanted to help his family financial but most importantly, the aim is to give back and improve his Hometown through sports and also infrastructure education should be considered. Failure was his main challenge, Due to his personality, said he is very fragile and short tempered person, so failures and dissapoitments shifted his focus from Bigger price. There where times he felt like everything was just falling apart like recently when their Club was sold (Bidvest Wits). What he learned during his football journey highlighted, football its a game of emotions and taking control of your emotions in the game ,plays a key role in your performance too.He believe its a short term career that feels long, therefore one has to have a plan B after every obstacle that comes across and the good side of the game taught him Love and Respect.
Regarding Football Development in South Africa,he would like to see improvements for facilities, because its a concern according to him.Stated football should be an equal sport that is not determined by who s’ Financially stable than who. Mostly a majority of financial stable are benefiting from football and poor are disadvantaged. He wishes everyone could get a fair chance in their Society to show themselves.People motivates him to do better every Day, he replied ,his wall paper on his fone has a picture of him back then in 2014,when he was a young boy.He swear the picture became his motivation ever since ,because looking at it and seeing every obstacle had been through and came out stronger ,than he was before, really keeps the fire burning on him.Christiano Ronaldo his favourite football idol ,hinted this lad has played with his heart throughout his entire career. He motivates him to work harder in order to get what he wants as he mentioned, he was younger and short but because of his influence, his leg game is something else now.

In 3 years ,said these should be enough for him,the rest shall follow. The former Bidvest Wits Academy told us everything felt unreal after he dreamt of himself wearing an white kappa kit and only to find out will be wearing a Bidvest Wits kit in just a few weeks. At first during his trials and also in pre season, said everything was hard because he had to adpt to the intensity and style of Johannesburg. Proudly said there was a thick line between the football he used to play and the football he was introduced to but everything started falling to place as he managed to be in the first 18 men squad, travelling to Clapham to play against Mamelodi Sundowns fc,his debut game and he was in starting IX,it was unbelievable experience for him.Owethu told us,the most important thing regarding Amateur ,said Amateur football players are not as determined and working harder as the ones ahead of them. He made a comparison said most of professional players blinded by social media and they forgot their effort s behind every Success. Sighted in football, there is less luck,if there s’ no effort. He also thinks coaches should start now instilling the professionalism regarding every agenda of footballers, when an footballer knows what’s at stake, then he will know how to secure every situation and it will be only through effort and determination.
